Not far from the Mittelland Canal lies the Südhemmern windmill. On milling and baking days, it smells deliciously of fresh cake here. But cyclists can also plan their own picnic here on all other days.

The mill is a so-called Wall-Holländer from 1880 with today's tower form. Around the year 1830 it was built wooden octagonal. The bakehouse and other half-timbered buildings and a local history room are available for activity days and visitor groups. Besides the opening hours, the mill offers a nice place to rest not far from the Mittelland Canal. Also the Mindener passenger boat service drives on action days over the Mittellandkanal to the pier Südhemmern. Likewise, the museum railroad Minden, which stops at the nearby station Specken.
